This modest cottage is graced with rich detail, such as brick voisseurs, and four stately brick chimneys. The dignified entrance has a door flanked by sidelights and topped with a transom light. Above the regency style porch is a fanlight bringing daylight to the attic space and above that, a glazed rooftop monitor brings light to the attic room. This device has been termed a “Belvedere”, hence the name of the house. Live your best Coastal Life in the completely renovated home on Deep Water at the Herb River.
"I like for my house to be comfortable and fun for my family and friends," she says. But for the Jaakkolas and their two daughters, outdoor assets were only half the attraction. For Jaakkola, these imperfections were badges to be embraced. So the avid preservationist set out to restore and renovate the home to honor its past while still creating a fresh and functional space for her modern-day family. The result is a laid-back Lowcountry retreat dripping with character. On the inside, one-of-a-kind local artwork mixes with eclectic antiques and natural wonders.

This deck is covered with an awning in the summer, forming a wonderful summer room. Inside Jaakkola's studio, natural light was enhanced by the barn's original sky-high ceilings. Taking it up a notch, she splashed all surfaces, high and low, in white. "I always say you can make anything look 10 times better with a can of white paint," says Jaakkola. A mix of antiques sourced from near and far furnishes the former barn, including iron garden chairs and a vintage wooden desk from France as well as a trio of vintage woven cloches from Vietnam.

Notable is a large brick vaulted room thought to have been an ice house. Running through the basement is the owner’s model railway layout. The newer but still historic west addition also has a bay with 6 over 6 windows similar to the original house. This area has now been renovated into a modern open kitchen.
How To Decorate Your Porch Year-Round
The picturesque setting of Isle of Hope has been well preserved by film’s time capsule for over 60 years. From Bluff Drive’s sun-dappled view of the Skidaway river, to the historic homes that charm the riverside community, it’s impossible to deny Isle of Hope’s cinematic appeal. This two-storey frame vernacular cottage was built with its gable facing the street. This, like the cottage at 25 Brown Street , exhibits the character of cottages of this period in history, which aspired to a classical style temple. This is further developed with a wrap-around porch with classical details in the columns with capitals. A metal roof adds much to the charm of this ground level porch.
I live in Savannah and I agree that Isle of Hope is beautiful…………especially along that street! And now I am going to your Part 2, and can’t wait to see if your favorites are the same as mine………….I think they must be………towards the other end of the street from the marina end. Thank You so much for the tour it was wonderful. I think Savannah is one of the South's most Beautiful city's, love the lowcountry. I love all the white picket fences and there are so many different styles.
English Town was an almost separate community at the top of the hill.
Also of interest is the attic room with its original pine floor. As was often the case with these classically-inspired houses, they had a side kitchen wing. This house originally had a kitchen wing to the south, but this was removed to provide parking for the house. During the period of construction of this house, owners began to build their houses on an axis, similar to that of classical Greek temples, such that the gable end faced the street. This gave a modest house an impressive front façade. In addition to houses in Isle of Hope, there were also 0 condos, 1 townhouse, and 0 multi-family units for sale in Isle of Hope last month.

The old portion of the basement has been opened up, exposing the original limestone foundation. This feature, along with rustic barn doors, creates a particularly charming part of the house. Prior to 1857, a coaching inn stood on this property. The last stop at the top of the hill, drivers would leave their coaches and horses at the inn and walk down into town. A side porch, likely added later, is supported on chamfered wood columns with decorative wood capitals and brackets.
"I like a soothing palette that allows the artwork and antiques to shine," says Jaakkola. Suspended above the enormous custom-made zinc island-on-wheels by local artist Tim Adams is a group of mixed and matched chandeliers and pendants Jaakkola sourced at antique marts from Savannah to New York. "When things appear collected it helps give a room that old, authentic feel," she says.

The car is usually the preferred way to navigate this municipality. It is especially convenient to access a parking spot. This part of the Savannah metropolitan area is not very well-suited for walking as many daily needs are inconvenient to meet without the use of a car. Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed. By the pic, it looked like a small-ish cottage style, just my size. Umm, yea, it’s a deceptive view, as seen in the “it’s for sale” photo collection. I've never posted before, but wanted to share, I painted the ceiling on my front porch this summer Haint Blue. We've have spiders build huge webs summer after summer and so far, there are no spiders on my porch.
